About Us
The Nashua Center was founded in 1974
by a group of concerned parents on behalf of their children, whose severity
of handicaps kept them from participating in any of the existing public or
private education programs. The Center originally operated as a child care
center. In 1983, the Center opened its first group home on Prospect Street,
next door to its day program. The process of becoming a state certified
school also began that year and was completed in 1984. Students, ages
3-21, were divided into three classrooms by age; elementary, adolescent and
young adult. In 1986, the school relocated to 18 Simon Street and became the
Simon Street Regional School. Residential services continued to expand with
the opening of several new group homes. As new laws governing the need for
all children to be educated in their neighborhood public schools were
passed, the students from Simon Street Regional School were being
transitioned back to their communities. As this transition was occurring,
the center began providing day services for adults with disabilities (JOBS
ETC.). In August 1992, the Simon Street Regional School was officially
closed but JOBS ETC. and our Residential Services continued to grow. In
March 1994, The Children’s Pyramid was established to provide early
intervention services for children birth to three and their families. We
currently provide those services to over 100 families throughout Southern
New Hampshire.
