The Nashua Center was founded in 1973 for a group of children whose severity of disabilities prevented them from participating in any existing public or private educational programs. It originally operated as a child care center and incorporated as the Nashua Center for the Multiply Handicapped, Inc. in 1976.

The Center presently provides services in four major areas; Early Intervention for children birth to three, vocational day services for adults with developmental disabilities or acquired brain disorders, residential options for children and adults with developmental disabilities or acquired brain disorders, and non-medical in-home care for elder and chronically ill adults.
